1) First of all its expensive, in some countries vista ulitmate costs 700 us
dollars!

2) it needs a new fast computer for it to run well enough to use

3) you often need to throw away perfectly functioning peripherals because
stupid vista cant use the XP drivers
and then you have to buy new ones

4) you often need to throw away perfectly functioning software because
vista-crapista is no longer compatible with them.

5) you lost valuable time and energy just to get stupid vista to work

6) it then takes up more energy for it to function thrashing the disks all
the time, needing 3d accelerated graphic cards for aero that gobble up the
watts
and making the cpus work harder (yes the more the cpu works the more energy
it uses). The PSU (power supply units) have jumped from 250-350 watts to 500
watts or more for a stupid computer than can run vista.

7) Having all that crap in an era where people are out of jobs, the economy
is in a crisis and credit is harder to get....
having all that vista-energy waste when global warming threatens to destroy
civilization is a crime to humanity.

Vista is a dinosaur product. It should be canceled and buried and forgotten.
Its also incredibly stupid design and made and loved by retarded monkeys
ONLY!

Get yourself $US 700.00 specifically to buy Vista.

Get yourself a fast computer.

No, just download the Vista drivers and the user will not need to purchase new
periferals. The stupid user will.

Vista is compatible, don't know about Crapista though, is that some kind of thing
you speak? Eat?

Got it the first go, perfierals and all. Then all times after that I've installed
it for others.

Since stupid people complain about something like Vista, instead of oil
speculators, market speculators, not asking how much a war is going to cost before
engaging in it, inflating currency, watching TV instead discussing politics,
economics, and religion. It's more your fault than Vista's.

Not everyone is a geek or computerliterate like those who hang out on NGs
like this, or who write software programs.  Why didn't you tell him, us,
what Vista drivers are needed to make older perf's work?  How about the MS
URL where we can find them?

Can you find "Twain 5" anywhere?  That's what I'm using.  My 640U
software doesn't work, but I never used that anyway.

I use my scanner mostly with Photoshop and with Omnipage so I don't
need that software.  Heck, I can even get my image using Irfanview.

Faxing?  Get an inexpensive fax program like Snappy Fax to do the
work.

Where would I find "twain 5" for a Epson 1200u scanner?  Epson doesn't have
them and other sites state W98 compatible twain 5s.

Using an an Epson 1200u?  My scanner wont work without the Epson software on
the PC and the software doesn't work on Vista.

Let me print something... Now I shall scan something.... Don't know the how and

There is nothing on their site to make their 1200u Perfecion scanner work
with Vista. See:

Of course! And there are no drivers I can find to make my Epson or HP

It's not only an excellent scanner but the Adobe Photo Deluxe that came with

This is total crap. I bought it for $40 and it's the worst software I ever
used. The scanner works but the photo editing software is almost useless.
We would have to burn the scanned pics to RW-CDs and download them to the
old XP machine to use AdobePhotoDeluxe. We moved the scanner back to the
back office and kissed the $40 goodbye - thanks to Vista. Good money after
bad.

No one I know is happy with Vista.  Speaking for myself this OS is a scam.
My perfectly good scanner wont work with Vista and Epson has no drivers so
it can.  My photo printing and photo editing software wont work with Vista
either. No fix for them either.  Vista is as unstable as W98. Lockups and
freezes are common and sometimes on Forums the cursor disappears.  So far
two friends have bought new PCs from Dell who will add XP if you want it
instead of the bloated aggravating Vista OS.  All the secutiry crap is
driving me crazy and I can't find anywhere to turn it off.  I'm so sorry I
didn't listen to my neighbor and call Dell for a new PC with XP installed.

Vista is crap and he is right, go outside .. (you know what outside is don't
you? And ask real users of vista what they think about it.)
Most if not all the replies you will get will be similar to Warrens.

That's most likely because they work for MS in some capacity or they assume
everyone is as computer literate as they are. They can't imagine that anyone
is new to PCs as they once were. After all, they didn't exit their mother's
body with a PC in their hands.

They are clueless as to what outside means.... they're in their little boxes
oblivious to the fact others may view Vista a lot differently than they do.

The warning should at least state that "This operating system my necessitate
you purchase all new peripherals."  It really pisses me off that I have to
purchase a new scanner and printer to use with this PC because there are no
fixes/drivers for the Epson 1200u scanner, AdobePhotoDeluxe software or for
the photo printing feature of my my HP printer.  All these things worked
perfectly on the old XP machine.  And some people here think we shouldn't
mind having to pull out another few hundred bucks and just
throw out or give away perfectly good printers and scanners.

in short it's a program that allows you to install XP (in your case) inside
Vista and it will be running in a window on your desktop.

Thus on your screen you will see 2 operating systems.

You start the virtual machine application and install xp inside it exactly
as if it was a real computer.

you can install vmware server that is free to do this www.vmware.com

After making the first settings for the virtual machine, then go and "add" a
USB connection to it.

You can always post here for more help if you need it

wind0ws_g33k - 04 Oct 2008 23:36 GMT
1) First of all its expensive, in some countries vista ulitmate costs
700 us
dollars!
2) it needs a new fast computer for it to run well enough to use
. . . Hmmmm. . . You don't need a new "fast" computer, you need a new
computer, even bottom line. Vista, to run smoothly, needs 1GB of RAM,
every computer now-a-days, new, has that standard.

3) you often need to throw away perfectly functioning peripherals
because
stupid vista cant use the XP drivers
and then you have to buy new ones
That would be because of the hardware manufacturers, not Windows Vista.
Microsoft has many universal drivers that will work with most hardware,
although they may not be made by the manfacturer.

4) you often need to throw away perfectly functioning software because
vista-crapista is no longer compatible with them.
See, I think you're using the wrong version on this issue. for your
software to work, you need to make sure you have Windows Vista SP1
installed, and that should work with all MODERN software.

5) you lost valuable time and energy just to get stupid vista to work
If you managed to get XP to work, I'm pretty sure Vista is no harder in
my experience.

6) it then takes up more energy for it to function thrashing the disks
all
the time, needing 3d accelerated graphic cards for aero that gobble up
the
watts
and making the cpus work harder (yes the more the cpu works the more
energy
it uses). The PSU (power supply units) have jumped from 250-350 watts
to 500
watts or more for a stupid computer than can run vista.
So turn 3d accelerated graphics off. Then you'll have the same type of
desktop as XP and you'll save energy. Microsoft has more services added
to Vista, so all the new tools and gadgets work. To get rid of these
extra CPU spikes, you need to disable all the services that you don't
need and fix the startup items. Also, power management needs to be
configured.

7) Having all that crap in an era where people are out of jobs, the
economy
is in a crisis and credit is harder to get....
having all that vista-energy waste when global warming threatens to
destroy
civilization is a crime to humanity.
Computers have always costed the same, if anything, dropped in price
over the years. Without computers, you wouldn't know squat about global
warming, which has to evident proof of existence.

Vista is a dinosaur product. It should be canceled and buried and
forgotten.
Its also incredibly stupid design and made and loved by retarded
monkeys
ONLY!

It doesn't have a stupid design, it's design is cutting edge. It's
sleeker, more user friendly and safe than XP.

Nice little icons and transparent windows does not substitute good design.

Toolbars that cannot be configured, bread crumbs that are non intuitive for
the layman, recycle bins that can me deleted,
windows that forget the size of their columns and general settings, a search
that cant search zit,  personal options with choices instead of tabs leading
you to more and more widows making everything non centralized, bad way to
control the system restore points,
totally destroyed interface (or lack of) defragmenter, UAC that is so
annoying that people end up either turning it off or pressing OK each time
without reading the message, the turn off button that is just an arrow with
an idiotic pop up menu (for crying out loud!), Hidden menu toolbars, the
inability to add a delete button and up button right on the toolbar, the
FOLDER PANE of Windows explorer that moves right and left on its own with no
horizontal scroll bar (this is zuper duper stupid), only ONE theme, fonts
and colors that look horrible on older CRT monitors straining the eyes and
confusing people, complex network center with options here and there that a
newbie will feel lost in...

should I go on?????

THIS IS NOT BAD DESIGN... ITS HORRIBLE DESIGN! PATHETIC!

At least one of the graphic artist uses Vista.
If people that talented use Vista, surely a loser like yourself's opinion is

The Greeks had one word for it "Kalos" beauty in all aspects

this would include every aspect of an OS to be as good as possible.

Holistic design... that's smart, beautiful, intuitive, versatile, efficient
in all ways, and with a price that would let more people use it

Could I help microsoft design such a thing YOU CAN BET YOUR ARSE I COULD!

Agreed betting my arse on it would be "Kalos". What would your contribution be?

Like Millennium., if I have the name right (one before XP), I think Vista is
a joke and wont be around long unless people are forced to buy it or switch
to some other operating system.

Users like you - who couldn't find a St. Bernard if you were in a
phone booth with two of them - always blame Vista for their own
stupidity.

And arrogant putzes who don't have a clue about the real world
repeatedly spout their ignorance like Old Faithful spouts water.

Check out Ubuntu at www.ubuntu.com. It's free and will probably run your
HP printer and your Epsom scanner.

yea, vista is just like Millennium, bad usability.
My HP AIO printer/scanner software for scanning cannot launch after life
update! The product is claimed to be vista compliant but in fact it is NOT.

My daughter needed Vista for school so she installed Vista Ultimate retail on her 4 year old $300 Walmart Chinese desktop special. Vista recognized all hardware and installed appropriate drivers, to include her bottom of the line HP printer, Microsoft wireless mouse and keyboard, and even her webcam which Logitech claims is not Vista compatible. She's been using Vista for almost a week now and loves it. Go figure.

Just visit all the other Vista newsgroups and see the problems people are
having with this OS. Also, I don't see why changes had to be made that made
old software and hardware unusable. That alone would piss the average person
off.

Your scanner is over 6yrs old. Epson chose not to write new Vista
drivers for it.
Epson wants you to purchase a new scanner.
Live with it. You should have checked with Epson and HP before you went
with Vista.
Two mins on the Internet would have made you and 'informed' user.
So stop whining. It was your decision.

So does this mean we won't be hearing your drivel about hardware not
working with Ubuntu?

Frank always ignores relevant facts like "Vista compliant".

Thanks, but that would void my warranty with HP.

I thought you were going to toss it out the window and by a Mac.

Not if you remove the hard drive, leaving Vista on it, put in a new one
and install Ubuntu on it. If you ever need warranty work with HP (now,
there's a joke! HP's "support" is like a rubber crutch), just put the
old hard drive back in and voila it's right back like it was when you
bought it.
