wrong program start up

i seem to have several programs that start up when i start
windows xp.i went to start/programs/startmenu/startup
but the programs that start automatic are not on thetartup
folder.how do i keep this programs from starting automatic

First thing to do is to open the applications in question, go to their
options or preferences and see if you can deselect the option to begin at
startup.

Second, if the above option doesn't exist, go to Start, type msconfig in the
run box and press enter.  Go to the Startup tab and deselect the items in
question.
