Sometimes System Restore uses a lot based on your settings.
Turn off/on System Restore to delete files:
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore.
Click System Restore Settings on left side.
Check "Turn off System Restore", click OK, follow prompts and reboot.
This deletes ALL Restore Points including corruption.
Then go back and turn on system Restore and create a Restore Point.
System Restore will continue to create Restore Points and delete older
data on a First In First Out basis.
See this link for more about system Restore:

Jupiter,
As you suggested, I deleted all my old restore points and
regained 6gig on my C drive. Still 9gig "missing". From
the external drive, I moved an 8gig folder to my C drive
but the external drive didn't report any increase in free
space at all!
Also did #6 as you suggested. No sig change.
It's got me stumped?!
Regards, Alwyn

Jup,
Thru Google I found KB article 315688. I did a printout
of G-dir.txt, and every folder on the drvie has two
subfolders named "." and "..". I cannot access these, and
they don't show up in the NTbackup file list. Perhaps
they are the problem?

What size is each hard drive?
What % of space is unaccounted for?
Log in to a profile with Administrator access.
Open My Computer
Click Tools
Click Folder Options
Click View tab
Check "Show hidden files and folders"
Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types"
Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files..."
Click OK and follow prompts.
Now check after space AFTER rebooting.
Some space is taken by partitioning etc, it is a small %, I am unsure
exactly how much.
Follow everything on this link to be sure no viruses etc involved:
