It is a long story but what it comes down to is that I had to reformat my
second hard drive (I know, I know !!!).
What software program can I use now to recover some of the files?

Herman;
Something here may help:

Also search Google for "data recovery"

Check out the following utility:
http://www.collina.us/files/REST2514.htm

If that doesn't help, go to www.google.com and use Undelete for your search
criteria.

If you turn up nothing, there are companies that handle this sort of thing,
check the back pages of most PC magazines as their are services advertised
for recovering files from damaged hard drives.

A good free one I found was PC Inspector.
