I was trying to delete this one program, but it wouldnt
let me so i fooled around with the preferences and such,
and i accidently clicked Open With, and clicked OK with
it on, Open With Paint. And I couldn't un-check
the "Always use the selected program to open this type of
file" thing. So now every "Application" on my computer,
tries to open with Paint, and nothing works. I can run
the system restore program but when the computer
restarts, it can't complete the process so it doesn't do
anything....What do i do!!??

Go to this website:

Windows XP File Assocation Fixes:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm

Click this link:

EXE File Association Fix (Restore default association for EXE files)

This will download the zipped reg file. Unzip the file and double click the
.reg file. This should fix the problem.

the file when I download it, right clicking it clicking
Extract All, and I extracted it to the same folder. Then
I opened up the new unzipped folder and double clicked
the xp_exe_fix icon and it asks me if I want to add the
information to the registry and I clicked yes and it said
it successfully added it. But the programs still won't
open.

OK, there may be more than one file type that was changed. Go back to MVP
Doug's website at the following address and look for this line:

"You can download a BAT file (zipped) that will restore all of the "default"
associations that XP ships with. It will not restore those file associations
created by 3rd party applications.  The BAT file can be downloaded HERE."

Click the link (HERE) and download the .zip file to the the Desktop. Extract
the xp_fileassoc.bat file. Double click the file to run.

This will restore all of the default file associations for XP.
