In WinXP how do I turn off the light gray background color
that's behind the Name column in the Details view of
Windows Explorer and folder views?  I really want it to
use the Windows color scheme instead.

Since I use white text on a black background, this light
gray is a real pain.

Thanks,

AB

Right Click on the desktop, choose Properties.
Open the Appearance tab
Click "Advanced"
Choose "3D Objects" from the Item dropdown
Pick the color that you'd like to use.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the reply!

That changed the background color of the header area, menu
background, and the background of the column header row,
but the light gray behind the folder/filenames in the Name
column is still there.

Other ideas?

What happens if you change it to a completely different theme?  Do you have
a screenshot of the area that is the wrong color?  Did you try changing the
Window color (in the same place as 3D Objects)?

I've tried changing the theme and scheme as well as
modified the various items under Advanced and Effects.
Nothing seems to change it specifically.

It's only in the Details view and only behind the folder
and file names in the Name column.  I would think that the
background color used elsewhere would be applied here too,
but apparently not.  I'm hoping that maybe there's a way
around this one instance where the background color is
forced to be this light grey color.
