Almost every other day when ever I start up my computer I get an message
that Generic Host has encountered a problem and has to be closed. My system
continues to load and I encounter no shut down. What is Generic Host?  What
can I do to get rid of this. I am current with my updates because my Win XP
home is on automatic update and I am very much current. I am virus free
because I have the Zone Alarm Security Suite. My system is scanned ever two
days.
Thank you.

Disconnect printer and/or scanner and reboot.  See if you still get that error
message.  If not, you'll need to reinstall them.

I'm no expert, but I did stay at
the Holiday Inn Express last night.

Try a cleanboot of the computer with the MS KB Article : 310353
