Win XP HE SP2 Follow-up to microsoft.public.windowsxp.basics Hi, I would like to know if there is a way NOT to have Windows ask me to choose User Account upon boot-up. There is only 1 user using my computer and I hate having to choose myself as the User, it's a waste of time. Can I have Windows boot-up to User name by default without waiting for me to choose? Copy and paste the following into the Open box: control userpasswords2 Click OK. Uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". In the box that pops up, replace Administrator in the "User Name" box with your user account. Enter your password twice. Note: You can leave the password box blank if your account does not have a password. Click OK twice and reboot to see if you get the desired results. Must I do that or > can I leave Administrator? With XP Home Edtion, you don't have a choice. You have to change it to another user account. That's because in Home Edition, you're only able to logon to the built-in Administrator account when the computer is running in Safe Mode. You'd need to be running XP Professional Edition in order to logon automatically with the Administrator account. But that doesn't mean that you should. Instead go to Start > Run and type in: Control userpasswords2 <ok> In the box that appears, click on your name, then uncheck the box that says "Users must use a password. . .", and hit Apply. A dialog should appear with your name already filled in. Type in your password twice, as requested, then OK twice to close. The next time you reboot Windows will log you in automatically.
