You will need to contact Dell for instructions how to create a recovery
disk. Do nothing until you have done this. Your next step will depend
on 1) whether you can create a recovery disk; or 2) assuming you are
able to create one, whether the Dell recovery disk is an image of the
operating system or the operating system itself. You should ask Dell
that question.

If the recovery disk is just an image, then you would need to purchase a
retail copy of XP in order to create the partitions during the
operating system clean installation (starting over).

You cannot partition the drive natively without destroying the data. You
need third-party software to do a non-destructive partitioning job now
(Partition Magic, BootIT NG for ex.), but I wouldn't just plunge
blindly into this without having your data backed up and either the
recovery disk/retail operating system in reserve.

I know its really none of my business, but I am extremely biased against
multiple partitions of a single volume.

So I have to ask, why? Why do you want to chop a perfectly good large
storage area into a bunch of tiny partitions?

If you have done all your backup and if you have the Windows XP cd with you
then you can completly erase the existing partitions and recreate partitions
according to your need with the windows XP cd itself. Boot the computer with
windows XP CD and follow onscreen instructions.

If you don't want to delete the drive containing Windows XP but you want to
delete other drives and recreate them then you can do this by using windows
XP's disk management utility.

If you don't want to erase complete hard disk and want to recreate the
partions then you will have to use some software like Partition Magic,
unfortunately Partition Magic is not a free software.
