It is possible that the file is corrupt in which case there is nothing that
I know of that can fix the problem. However you might try downloading a 30
day trialware version of Backup MyPC , which is what the XP Backup utility
is based on, and see if it will open your file.

Thanks for fast response. This programme seems to be looking for "qic" backup
files wich I believe MS used not later than Win98 ish. Xp MS Backup uses
"bkf" extension so no go.
Thanks anywat

Hmm it appears that Stomp has changed the name of Backup MyPC (which it was
formerly called) to PC Backup
http://www.stompsoft.com/pc-backup/pc-backup.html Anyway it should open both
qic and bkf files. You might want to try the demo from there instead.
or
Here are a couple of apps that claim to repair bkf files. I just found the
links today so can attest to the function but this might be helpful in your
case http://www.topshareware.com/Advanced-BKF-Repair-download-37864.htm or

Have you tried copying the .bkf from the networked host's C: drive to
YOUR hard drive? Try to open the file locally on your host.
It is possible the .bkf file is corrupted. You should NEVER do a backup
without the "verification" option also enabled. This will double the
time to create the backup: once to write the file and a second pass to
verify the .bkf file can be read and its contents (i.e., the files
within) match up with the original files. There is no point is taking
the time to save a backup if you don't test that you can actually USE
that backup. Same goes when you create drive/partition images: do the
verify step.

Hi, yes I have tried moving the file, but no good. I take your point about
verification though.
Thanks for your help.
