Windows Media Player Default Question

Forgive me if I am not asking this correctly (ie, using the term default).

How do I change the default for my media player from "Real Player" back to
the "Windows Media Player".  I have checked "help" and "tools" in both
players to no avail.

Whenever I click on a video clip that someone sends me - it automatically
opens in "Real Player", ie I believe "Real Player" set itself as the default
(it may have asked me when I loaded it, and I clicked yes - dunno).

I read somewhere that Windows media player doesn't have a default per se,
and it is all file association type stuff.

Is there a way to change this so when I open a video clip attachment in an
e-mail, it will open with "Windows Media Player" instead of "Real Player".
I would certainly hope so.  Thank you.

Open Media Player and select Tools/Options/File Types Tab.

You will see a lsit of files that will open in Media Player. Place a check mark in the types you wish to associate with MP.

Real Player will have the same options, de-select the file types you do not want RP to open.

Thanks for your response Ronnie...this is kind of crazy stuff.  When I
clicked on .wmv in the Windows media player, it opened my video clips with
the windows media player, but I never did anything to the real player
"preferences" (ie I didn't unclick anything) - does windows remember the
last thing you clicked somehow no matter which player you were in (and it
ignores the previous one).

Also when I clicked the .wmv box in the windows media player and then opened
up real player later on, it immediately put up a message that I had changed
something in the real player defaults and asked me if I wanted to put them
back.  And then when I checked the media types in real player preferences,
it had itself checked (in one of the radio buttons) as the global default
for all media types.  Very confusing (.wmv was still checked in the sub
details - yet the windows player was overriding it).  Interesting at best.

Thanks again, and please reply back on any comments you have on my above
statements...Pete

Pete

It's just the nature of the business for all media player programs to compete to be the default player for all media types. You just need to forcefully change things the way you want. It sounds like you have the problem sorted now. Enjoy. :)
