For a few days now, my volume control icon doesn't show up on the task
bar. I can go to Settings->Control Panel->Sounds and Audio Devices. The
General tab shows the box checked for displaying on the task bar. I can
uncheck it, then check  it on again, then click Apply, and the icon
appears until the next time I boot up. Then I'm back to the same issue.

Thanks for  your help.

Hello Lu,

Try this:

Click on the letter "V" at the top and scroll down to "Volume Control".
