As soon as I open a second document, the first disappears. If I re-open the
first, the second document disappears, etc. This is a new problem. I
frequently have several open tiled documents and work between them, so I know
how to do this, but suddenly this feature has disappeared ! I used to
experience this only with Excel, but I rarely need to have two Excel
documents open at one time, so it never mattered, but this is new in Word,
and it does bother me! I can't figure out what / how it changed, or how to
fix it.
Thanks for any help.

starting in Microsoft Word 2000, when multiple documents are opened, a
separate button appears for each on the Windows taskbar. "

Thanks, JS. It took a while to figure this out because the first part seemed
to do the opposite of what I wanted, but I finally found what I needed at
Tools, Options, View, and check Windows in Taskbar. I now vaguely recall
unchecking that box and wondering what would happen if I did, and then
forgetting I had done it! Thanks so much for your help, and for such a
speedy reply.
