Hi ... very recently explorer's search facility has failed, it won't
find files anymore.  Anyone know why?  On microsoft support it mentions
a hotfix, but v unhelpful on finding this.  Any suggestions?

The First Question Of Troubleshooting: what changed between the time
things worked and the time they didn't?

The Second Question of Windows Troubleshooting: what is the
malware/virus status of the machine? If you think it is clean, what
programs (and versions) did you use to determine this?

Be sure the computer is clean:

If the machine is clean and since the change was sudden, if you can't
pinpoint what is different (First Question of T-shooting), then try a
System Restore to when things worked.

Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore
"Restore my computer to an earlier time".

Thanks Malke

The thing has been bugging me for ages, no doubt have installed various
windows upgrades since it started, have norton antivirus running.

Anyhow, turned indexing off - and magic - I can find things again.  I
guess the index got corrupted at somepoint and now won't play at all.
Don't care, can at least find things.

Glad you got it sorted. Thanks for taking the time to post the solution.
