My computer used to boot to the desktop, now it stops and wants a password.
I don't use a password so I just hit enter, and then it continues to load.
This is a real pain, so finally, today i looked around for how to fix it,
and found this via a google search:
Click Start, Run and type CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2, and click Ok. Select the
user account from the list (the account to which you want to automatically
logon). Uncheck Users must enter a user name and password to use this
computer option, and click Ok. Type the user account password and complete
the process.

This makes no sense to me. If I don't have a password set, how can I enter
a password? Is it safe to do as this fix says? But, then again, I can
follow the instructions up until it wants me to enter a non-existant
password, then i just kinda scratch my chin.

Any light on the subject will be greatly appreciated.

If you have no password - press enter (don't enter any).
It's called a "blank password' and I bet you have at least one other account
with full rights on that machine with a blank password.

I'm a little worried about running commands, etc.

I tried it, and it worked after a fashion.
It didn't boot to "my" desktop, it booted
to a generic administror desktop.
I could not find a way to switch to my desktop,
because my account wasn't there.

So I tried a restore point, and now it is
back to where it was. stops mid-boot
and xp pro login screen.

I tried to change how users sign on, and
got an error msg saying the ability to switch
users, and windows login, has been disabled.

It said mrvgina.dll caused that to happen.

Googled the file and it's a netware file.

I have a linksys router, and a trendnet
wifi card, so how in the world is
netware involved? The last rhtorical.
Should I just search for and then delete
mrvgina.dll?
