hi,

i'm using xp home on a notebook.

whenever i go to my favorite internet cafe, windows seems to have 'lost' the
connection (wireless) even tho' the password has not changed.

i have to "repair" the connection - no ip addess, or 0.0.0.0.

could this be  problem with my own configuration or is it just that the cafe
prob assigns a dynamic ip which must be 'renewed' at startup?

part of the problem is that i once installed Intel's proprietary wireless
mgr (they make the hardware i think), which was a real screwup.  since i
reconfigured XP to take over again, it's been better.  but never quite the
same.

any remarks or help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure I entirely understand your description or the reference to
0.0.0.0. If the cafe's router is dynamically assigning IPs, it's probably
easier to restart the computer to allow it to gracefully accept that IP
instead of trying to repair the connection manually. Give the hardware a
chance to do its work.

I had the Intel manager active for a while on my tablet too. If there is
anything left of that in Control Panel, you may want to double check that
is has stayed disabled. I seem to remember it re-activating once or twice.
