The popup suggesting I go from AVG Antivirus Free 7.5 to their new v8
Internet Security does occur on the one PC I have running AVG7.5 Free. At
least the other PC I have running a paid version of AVG AntiMalware has no
pop-ups.

Philo...if you google it, apparently it does NOT happen to everyone for some
strange reason, but there is ample evidence that it happens and that AVG has
slumped down to that sort of thing - it is a shame. I don't see anyway of
stopping it, except for uninstalling and reinstalling, but I doubt that will
work since someone said the pop up was in one of their update files, and
therefore it is probable in the latest version of 7.5 that you would
redownload.
Do you think it has anything to do with firefox, versus IE. I use
firefox...Pete

The machine I am using now has IE, K-Meleon and Thunderbird
and AVG 7.5 free . I have never seen a pop up to purchase the new version.
Nor has any machine I've setup with AVG free done that.
All I could suggest would be to uninstall
reboot
then reinstall

I use Firefox and it did it a couple of days ago. The auto-update was a
bit large, so I thought I might be getting an updated version.
It's happened twoce in four months and I have auto-update set for once a
day.

For me, it started doing that a couple of weeks ago, and did it for
about a week, then stopped.
But what has been consistent from Day 1 is that the automatic update
screen pops up and grabs focus, then 15-30 seconds later when the
update is being applied a second screen pops up and grabs focus, then
about a minute later when the update is successful a third window
pops up and grabs focus. I'd love to make *that* stop, but I figure
it's the price I have to pay for good-quality antivirus protection at
no charge.
