Windows Forum / Windows XP / Basics / May 2008Does Windows XP Home allow me to restore the previous version of an overwritten file?
I thought it was possible to go to older versions, but I don't remember how. After a virus infection, I had to reinstall windows. Fortunately my internet explorer's well developed bookmark file was on a second drive. Then I accidentally over-wrote the bookmark file with a much reduced basic version. However, there are many file-reeovery programs that might be able to get some of them back, depending on how much disk activity has happened since you had the accident. For some option, try this link: http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads38.html One free program, which is pretty good, is PC Inspector File Recovery: http://www.pcinspector.de/Sites/file_recovery/info.htm?language=1 CAUTION: Try to avoid writing to the disk with the erased/over-written files. The more you use that disk, the lower the chances of getting the file back. Note: What you call "bookmarks" in Internet Explorer is usually a large number of individual files of type *.URL, not one big file.
