My IBM R50P laptop powers off with no warning, no consistency.

My IBM R50P has started to "power off" when I am using it and also when not
in use. The only constant I can pin point is that it happens within 30
minutes from bootup. It is not linked to specific programs unless there is
something happening in the background. I have tried to use system restore
thinking an program update may have caused this, but after the boot from
system restore, I get an "Incomplete" error due to no changes were made? This
does not make sense because I go to points in time when Windows update was
installed or a program was installed or removed.
Any suggestions? I really don't want to start from scratch. I am dependent
on my computer daily.

Since you are dependent on your computer daily, I hope you're backing up
your data.

Sudden shut downs like you describe are most often caused by overheating
and/or hardware failure. You can look at the hardware troubleshooting
suggestions at the link below, but aside from some extremely careful
cleaning and testing the hard drive and RAM, there isn't too much you can
do yourself on a laptop. Contacting IBM/Lenovo tech support is probably
what you should do next.
