I had to use msconfig. Now, every time I boot up I get the following
message:

"You have used the System Configuration Utility to make changes to the way
Windows Starts.
The System Configuration Utility is currently in Diagnostic or Selective
Startup mode, causing this message to be displayed and the utility to run
every time Windows Starts.
Choose the Normal Startup mode on the General tab to start Windows normally
and undo the changes you made using the System Configuration Utility."

I have chosen Normal Startup mode and also checked the box for "Don't show
this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows
Starts," but the message still appears every time I boot up.

Thanks for any help with this.

I would try running msconfig again, restart and check that box about not
showing this message again. Restart again
   and see if it's gone.

In my experience, checking the "Don't show this message again" box is
futile.  To prevent the message from appearing, you need to enable all
the msconfig options; that is, undo what you did.

Better to get a different utility to modify your msconfig settings.  I
use RegistryCleaner by Vuorio -- a little free stand-alone program
that's been around for a decade or so.  It has a tweak startup
settings options.  Other programs also allow for tweaking the msconfig
options.  Just not msconfig itself.  :-(
