desktop icons-search companion

when i click on a desktop icon-it takes me to a search page where i have to
click on another button to take me to the desired destination-it use to be
when i click on a desktop icon,-i would go directly to my desired
destination,can anyone tell me why this is? i have tried changing folder
options,desktop options,turned off search companion-with no results,thanks
for any help yuo can give me.
