Viewing Image Thumbnail Preview

Hi, I'm a graphic designer who works in almost all Adobe products.  I rely
heavily on thumbnail previews of my files to see what images need to be
pulled for certain projects.  Once upon a time, before something choked my
hard drive to death, I was able to see thumbnail previews, now that I have
reinstalled XP and all of my software, I can no longer see .psd file previews
- just the Photoshop file icon.  Strangely, all other image file format
thumbnail previews appear, i.e., .jpg, .gif, .png, .tif, .pdf.  Although I've
never been able to see .eps files (if anyone knows that, I'll throw a party.)

I have investigated all the usual suspect places and even checked a few I
was not aware of until reading all the posts here.  Unfortunately, no luck...
any advice on how to see a Photoshop .psd file in thumbnail view?

Hi Visualah,

Windows XP does not have a thumbnail extractor module for .PSD files. As
.PSD is a Adobe Photoshop proprietary file format, Adobe has to supply a
thumbnail extractor module (shell extension) in order for Windows XP to
generate a thumbnail preview for that file type. It's a good idea to check
with Adobe support forums to check if the plugin is available for download.

Thanks Ramesh, I will do that.  I was under the impression it was XP.  When I
originally loaded Photoshop (before my hard drive crash) I had image preview
and now upon reload of XP after the crash, for some reason I don't and I
still have the same Photoshop version.  As a matter of fact, on my old laptop
which is still running Windows 98, I get image preview.  Go figure?

Visualah,

Check these results, as well. There seems to be a workaround:
http://www.google.com/search?q=%2Epsd+thumbnail

I don't have Adobe Photoshop installed in my system, so I'm unable to test
the workaround provided.

Thanks again Ramesh, I will give that a shot.  I also tossed a post over to
Photoshopuser/NAPP to see what advise that have to share.

BTW, the workaround involves download Adobe's shell extension (obviously)
and registering it with the system.
