to change icon on desktop

i have windows xp professional: would like to change icons i have on the
desktop but am unable to do so. when i double click on the icon, go to
properties, browse, and the lists of icons come up i select and apply: yet
the icon i selected does not appear and the same e (for explorer) remain on
all the icons i wanted to change. any suggestions? thanks, steven

Your probably mean "Namespaces" not shortcuts. Right click on the desktop
and select properties. In Display properties select "Desktop" the press
"Customize Desktop"
