No one with any thoughts on this please? I'd like to get back to all
my programs showing the LIST mode when I use File>Open. For movies
etc, the ICON mode slows things down, as well as making it necessary
to scroll more to find the file I want.
XP Home is opening Explorer folders OK, and remembering their mode. So
I guess the cause is something obscure ;-(

This might reset the ability to set the preferred layout; I'm not sure.
It just mentions the sort order, but might help reset display
preference too.
Restore Sort order in Open and Save dialogs

Also look at these Kelly tweaks:

Line 2. Increase Folder View Size Limit to 8000
Line 85. Set Detail View for all Folders Open/Save As

Thanks Joe, appreciate your taking the trouble. Unfortunately already
tried those 3!
Also just about to try the program OpenWide from
http://lingo.atspace.com/openwide.html
Will report back if it does what I want. But in any case I'm still
hoping to discover what the underlying cause of this odd behaviour is.
Anyone else with any ideas please?
