I ued to get a sound play when I attached an infra-red device to my PC
via the USB port.

In COntrol panel > Sounds and Audio > Sounds tab I can see the "Wireless
Link" entry has WAV sound clips associated with various events like
"Device Out of Range" but none of these clips play.

Ordinary WAV files play ok but these do not play.
Other warning sounds play but these do not play.

What settings on my XP Pro/SP2 system should I check?

Go to sounds in Control panel.
Go to device connect.
at the bottom go to browse.
See the list of files.
Test the files by right clicking on them and chosing play.
Windows media player will play them.
At least your will know if the files are good.

Hi Jim, I checked the files and they are good.  It's just that i
don't hear them when those infrared conditions are met.

I also used to get an IR icon on the desktop when a connection was
made but not now.
