My Documents was always arranged in groups by date modified, then one day it
randomly decided it was a music folder (music symbol at bottom right of
screen) and I can no longer do this. Please help!

Hello Sarah,

Right-click the folder => Properties => Customize tab
In the drop-down box near the top of the window, select from 'Use this
folder type as a template' - 'Documents (of any type)'.

Keith Miller has a script that can fix the problem.  Download
TaskPaneFix.zip attachment from this newsgroup post:

Thanks, but this didn't really make sense what you were meant to do with it,
but I've worked out another way around it anyway.

From your original post it sounded like your My Documents folder was acting
like a music folder.  I.e. Instead of having File and Folder Tasks you had
Music Tasks showing in the Tasks pane, the left hand pane in folders.

Those links were to address that problem.

Yes, that was the problem, however the program you instructed me to download
didn't actu
ally do anything. Thanks anyway though.
