It takes forever for my Windows XP to load, but my Startup folder is empty.
Used to load much faster. Seems like its loading a lot of junk I don't (or
no longer) use. How can I strip it down so it loads only what I need and
shortens the boot-up time ?

Hello,
go to Run -> msconfig -> tab "Startup". There are often programs you don't
need and which are consuming a lot of computing power.

Even Better than MSCONFIG , try using this program ,it displays
EVERYTHING that will load at ur windows startup, some data won't be
shown in MSCONFIG, trust me:
Download From my virtual Drive:

If you no longer use a program, uninstall it.
Open the "junk" programs, look through their menus, find the setting
that starts the program with Windows, undo that setting.

There's lots of places where an autorun program can be hiding, not
just your startup folder. Take a look at
http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml
There's a similar program from sysinternals but it isn't as simple:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/Utilities/AutoRuns.mspx
Other topics that could be helpful are, "registry clean-up", "spyware
detection", "disk defragmentation".
