THey should be in the first, top-most folder in your registry. -- HK
Classes Root. Look for a folder called .php. If you don't find it,
make it. Then search neighboring folders until you find one that has
a custom program and custom icon entry. Follow the pattern in those
to create custom entries for your php file associations.
If that doesn't work, you might need to make a string for Persistent
Handler. I don't know how to do that -- I have only imported them.

Thanks for the pointer, Lady Dungeness. I tried your method of
creating a folder, but it didn't help - the associations went missing
after I closed regedit.
But somehow, then going on to _delete_ that folder I'd inserted, and
step through the "Folder Options" routine again allowed me to create
the custom icon I wanted along with the program to open the PHP
script. Very strange, but it worked in the end!

If you want, you can restore all DEFAULT file associations in Windows-
XP:
