Removal of Icon from control panel

I have an icon inthe control panel screen for a program that has been
removed from the system.  How do i get the icon off the control panel?

you might be interested also in using the Windows XP powertoy from
Microsoft "TweakUI" .....
Google it ....., Download it.

Each item in the Control Panel is a representation of a file with the
.cpl extension in \Windows\System32. Locate the corresponding file
(the name should make it apparent which it is) and delete it.
