Hi,
I've turned off updates for XP pro, but I get this nag every time I boot up
that "my computer may be at risk" etc.
Is there any way to disable this nag?
thanks for any advice,

Change How Security Center Alerts Me:
- Open the Security Center by double-clicking its icon next to the time or
type Security Center in the search box in the start menu and click Security
Center or Control Panel --> Security Center.
- Click Change the way security center notifies me in the left column of the
security center window.
- Change what you need to...

Rondo,
You need to disable the balloon tips in XP, this can be done one of two
ways:
1. Download/Install Tweak UI for XP:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx
You may want to also download the registry key to enable a Control Panel
Icon for TweakUI from Kellys Tip Korner:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/xp_AddTweakUItoControlPanel.vbs
Start Tweak UI> under StartUp and Taskbar Menu, you will clear the box to
"Enable Balloon tips".
2. Or following the instructions in editing the registry, found at:
