I have a PC running Windows XP Home SP2, full updated.

I frequently visit the Most Recent Documents icon on the XP start menu.
It is a quick way to find stuff.

Is it possible to create a shortcut to that icon on the taskbar?

To be more specific, I'm looking for a MRD shortcut that will mimic
the original.  In other words, when I place my cursor on it, a submenu would
open listing the last 15 or so files I used.

Right click on your Taskbar and move your mouse pointer up to the Toolbars
entry.
From the menu that pops out, select New Toolbar.
In the New Toolbar dialog that pops up click on My Computer to so it expands
Click on the C drive.
In the C drive click on Documents and Settings and click on the folder for your
user account.
Within that folder you should see an icon representing My Recent Documents.
Click on it and hit the OK button.
You should now see a new toolbar on the right hand side of your Taskbar named My
Recent Documents.
Click on the double arrows to the right of the toolbar to view the list of
documents.

Good luck

Thank you for the information.  Following the instructions above, I
created the new toolbar with the My Recent Documents shortcut.

The only drawback is that it lists about 200 items!  The original Most
Recent Documents icon usually lists the last 15 or so files, which is far
more convenient and manageable.

Sorry about that. I clean out the My Recent Documents list on my computer on a
regular basis. For that reason, I wasn't aware of the fact that the folder I had
you add to your Taskbar isn't limited in the number of entries it contains.

I know of no way to reduce the number of items you're seeing on that toolbar
other than to delete individual entries. If I come across another method, I'll
pass it along.

I forgot to include this in my earlier response.

To remove the My Recent Documents toolbar from the Taskbar, do the following.

Right click on the Taskbar and move your mouse pointer up to the Toolbars entry.
Slide the mouse pointer over to the menu that pops out and click on My Recent
Documents.

Sorry for the confusion.
