When I click start-run-msconfig, there is nothing in my
startup folder, is that possible or is there something
blocking me from seeing it?

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersi
on\Run if you find this key using regedit. This is nearly
the same as looking in the startup tab in msconfig. This
will give an accurate idea. In answer to your question I
think it is possible to load nothing on startup "Safe
Mode" would do the same.

Its entirely possible, Frank.   As a double check, you can see
www.dougknox.com, Win XP Utilities, Startup Programs Tracker.  This small
app scans the same areas that MSCONFIG does, and gives you a little more
"readable" presentation.

One thing I noticed with MSCONFIG is while I was running
a program that slowed my comp down a bit, I went into
MSCONFIG and clicked startup...the list popped up for two
seconds and then gone...So I know there are things there
and there should be as for what I know is on the comp,
why would they vanish like that?

Thanks for all the help and replies...

W32.spybot worm disables NAV, Msconfig, Regedit and Task Manager:

The same symptom is caused due to Klez, Yaha Viruses. It is advisable to run
a full system scan. Be sure you update the anti-virus software definitions.
