The USB ports on our computer won't work unless you have the printer on when you turn on the computer or turn the printer on and then restart the computer.  We have updated the bios, printer driver, windows xp, etc.  Any suggestions?

Deinstall then reinstall the driver.  Use Cari's site for detailed
instructions for complete driver removal and proper driver installation.

Yes, we have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer software several times.  Seems to me the USB port need to be configured, but where to go and how to do, we don't know

In device manager check the power management tab for USB root hub.
[ ] Allow the computer to turn this device off to save power.
