Hello,

I just installed Windows XP.  I have a Western Digital
WD800JB 80 GB 7200 RPM harddrive setup as a slave.  

The computer had Windows 2000, but yesterday evening I
installed Windows XP Home Edition. I have read many
discussions on this during the last 12 hours.  If your
answer, is going to be "look it up in the FAQ, please
don't bother posting". I've have tried to find the
solution before posting here, but can't seem to find the
proper solution.

Now, I cannot see the slave drive from "My Computer".
When I go to disk management, I do see the drive listed
as Disk1,dynamic,foreign.  When I right click, I have
three options: Convert to Basic, Properties, and Help.  I
do not have the option "Import from Foreign".

Again, this driving was usuable at this time yesterday,
the only change, and a major one obviously, is having
installed Windows XP.  I have tried to update the driver,
but I am told that the best drivers are on already.  
Furthermore, if there are other drivers for this device
that work better with Windows XP, I haven't found them.

This morning, I took the drive out, compared the jumper
setting with the instructions on the Western Digital
software that I loaded last night (the jumper is
correct). I then hooked it up into a Windows 2000 machine
as a slave without any bios setup, or changed settings,
and I was able to see the drive once I ran the
option "Import from Foreign" from disk managment (or
something very similiar).  The drive has 43% used, and
33% free. All data is still there.

Western Digital's solution is to contact Microsoft.
