Have just tried to install one touch Maxtor external hard
drive. After fighting with computer for a while, I can
identify the drive in 'computer management' and 'device
manager' but it is not registering under'my computer' so I
can't drag and drop files into new drive.
The file system is not listed in 'computer management' so
I try to format new drive but error occurs and computer
tells me need to restart to fix... but that does nothing.
When computer restarts the external drive light flashes
suggesting it is ok, and when I push the button to back up
I can do that also.... but drag and drop function is still
not working.

Have tried Maxtor but no response yet....

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hi!
Download MaxBlast 3 For Windows from
http://www.maxtor.com/en/support/downloads/files/maxblast3win.exe

You will be able to format your external drive from Windows XP.
I just formatted mine this way (Windows XP could not manage to format
it).
My external drive is not a "one touch" drive but it is a Maxtor hard
drive.
It should also work for you.

Hi again!
Did the MaxBlast utility not recognize your external hard drive?

Max blast found it, but when selected did not continue
through max blast.

Also wasn't on the maxblast list for drives.

If I remember well, my external hard drive was not listed with the
system hard drive. It was listed on a different tab under external USB
or FireWire drive. I had to select it from there. Then partition and
format it. Worked like magic.
