my toshiba satellite 5105-s501 running xpPro doesn't recognize my Canon ZR70MC camcorder when i connect it to my Firewire800 external hard drive (using any cable or any port) which is connected to the laptop via firewire.  Turn the hard drive on, it's recognized fine.  when i turn the camera on, the hard drive is no longer recognized, until i turn the camera off and then the laptop sees the hard drive again as though it was just connected.  what's going on?  i've seen info on windowsupdate about a hotfix that may apply here (multiple ieeeee1394 devices), but wondering if there's something else possibly causing the error

thank

Laptops may be using a 4 wire port and may not be able to
power extra devices.  Check the specs on your model.
