numberic keyboard (calculator)

Help!  I cannot seem to make my numeric keyboard, or
calculator work. The "NUM lock" is not on. Is there some
trick to turning on the numerical keyboard on a new
computer??
I have contacted Dell but they have not given me a
solution yet.
Would appreciate any advice.
