I have a Windows XP Professional installation which, when installing a new
modem, does not display the various "Standard Modem" options in the Add New
Hardware Wizard.  When "Do not detect my modem..." is selected and then
"Standard Modem" is selected for the Manufacturer, under Models the only
options are "Communications cable between two computers" and "Parallel cable
between two computers" - the various baud rate "Standard Modems" do not
appear.

Any ideas on what might cause this or how to manually load the standard
modem driver?

Thanks in advance

Who is the maker and what is the model number of the modem?
There are hardware modems and then there are software modems.
A companion cdrom or diskette may be needed to complete the
installation of the latter type, aka "Winmodems".
