Hi,
After some recent updates to Windows XP, I am finding that the USB
controllers on my motherboard are not working. Please note that when I first
finished the installation of XP, all was fine.
Now, when the computer is booted up, it fails I believe to start the Human
Interface Device Service, and I notice a single bang (exclamation mark) next
to the root USB Hub Controller. If I then go into Device Manager, remove this
device, and then re-add it, all works fine.
Please note that this has also happened at my work on approximately 50-100
new laptop computer. The same Messages are not displayed, however, if the
client installs a USB memory stick, soon as the stick is picked up, it drops
out. In many cases, you cannot even get enough time to format the drive even!
I believe that a recent Microsoft Hotfix may have caused this problem, and I
have contacted Microsoft directly, to no avail. This simly HAS to be a
Microsoft issue, as in my workplace it has affected so many computers, and my
newest box at home is RADICALLY different to what I use here at work.
I can give this about another week, but I need my USB devices, and I'm not
relishing having to shift 60 gigabytes of my data to do a reinstall of
windows XP.
Thanks all.

Many thanks,
Andrew.

Try a system restore back to a time period when there was no issues, then add updates 1 by 1 to find
the one the update that is causing you problems.

I have no usb driver or a system speaker driver installed on my computer
after having it worked on and I do not know how to install them or where to
go to get them to install. My system restore will not go back far enough to
help.
