Keyboard - How to get f-lock to come on automatically

Hi, I have a Microsoft Office Keyboard (the one with the scroll wheel and
application buttons on the left). I was wondering how to get the F Lock key
to come on automatiacally. I find myself using the F keys more often than
the short cut keys, such as Open, New, Send, Reply, etc.

I can't find anything in the Help file.

I know it's not that big a deal to have to press the F Lock key first, but
it would be a lot more convenient.

Thanks,
HMC

The F-lock key cannot engage automatically.
That's one of the reasons the Microsoft Office
Keyboard is no longer sold or supported.

You may wish to consider upgrading to a newer desktop set.

Example:

One of the main reasons I went back to a regular, cheap keyboard.

It doesn't work like that unforunately.

Jason has posted the link for his F-Lock tool. Just wanted to mention that
this issue has been addressed with the newer MS keyboards. They are capable
of remembering the F-Lock state. I have one of these. Since I set F-Lock to
ON, the keyboard has worked as advertised and this state stays active.

Do they have them in black :-) How much are they?

There are black models of those new keyboards.

Essentially, any new keyboard that has been released since Sept 2004 should
have that feature

Except if you use a USB connection. IIRC the F-Lock tool only works
with PS/2.

Yup, that is true.

Scancode mapper doesn't work on USB keyboards

I learned that one the hard way. I now have one of the new MS
ergonomic 4000 keyboards . This one has the F-lock key off by default,
even with a USB connection.
