Hello,
I have an annoying issue with my computer. I mistakenly plugged an USB
device (Creative DiVi CAM) *before* installing the drivers (which the manual
was advising against!). I did install the drivers afterwards though. Since
then however, every time I log on, even when no USB device is plugged, XP
fires a "USB plugged" sound, shortly followed by a "USB unplugged" sound
(some 5 seconds later). Quite annoying. I do not know which device XP
recognizes because no USB "yellowish bubble pop-pup" shows when it does...
and I cannot check in device manager what is appearing / disappearing
because the whole sequence is too fast.
If that's help, here is what I have in my device manager under "Universal
Serial Bus controllers" after a "set DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1" (all
devices appear to be "connected" unless stated otherwise)
= (not connected)Bluetooth USB Controller (ALPS/UGX UGPZ6XC02A)
= (not connected)Generic USB Hub
= Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller - 2658
= Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller - 2659
= Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller - 265A
= Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller - 265B
= Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller - 265C
= (not connected)USB Composite Device
= (not connected)USB Mass Storage Device
= USB Root Hub
= USB Root Hub
= USB Root Hub
= USB Root Hub
= USB Root Hub
= (not connected)Y-E Data USB Floppy
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Is there a way to have a trace of the
plugged / unplugged devices in XP? Is there a way to compare my current
device manager configuration to an earlier device manager configuration?
Thans in advance for your suggestions and comments!!

If possible, uninstall everything related to the device that you possibly
can and then roll back to a restore point before the misbegotten
installation.
Something like this happened to me once with a HP printer/scanner/fax. I
didn't have a restore point to roll back to so I had to do a "search and
destroy" in the registry. This is something like a root canal only not as
much fun.
