Help! Dell INspiron 600m just crashed. I manually stopped it by holding
down the power button because it seemed locked up (too many programs
running, and memory going down--stupid, stupid, I know!).
Now when I start it up, I get the black screen with several options
beginning, "We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not
start successfully. A recent hardware or software change..." It then
gives me several options like "safe mode," "safe mode with networking,"
on down to "start windows normally." However, each option leads through
a loop; I click it and it starts back up again to land on the same
page.
What can I do????
I had just updated ADobe Acrobat and downloaded some music files.
Thanks.

Hi
If you're in that loop, you'll need to try a 'Repair' install of XP. Have a
look at the following article by Michael Stevens:

Hi,
I would first try to check the system file integrity prior to repair
Windows... Such repair is not that innocent and could lead to slowdown and
unstability. Anywqy, it would lead to the main problem resolution ;o)
My impression is you've better to try to run chkdsk /r within the recovery
console

Hi, Sorry to be stupid, but how do I get to chkdsk/r or the "recovery
console"?
Thanks very much.
