I think I hit a combination of keys that made my mouse go goofy. I no longer have a right button, the left button doesn't allow for double clicking or activate things when I click on drop down menus. The scroll wheel works. I have gone into the mouse folder and everthing seems to be fine there. I've also removed the mouse hardware from the system and that doesn't seem to fix the problem either. Additionally, the computer and mouse seem to go into stand by mode by themselves after differing amounts of time. My screen saver doesn't come up. Any ideas what I did or how I can fix this????? I'm at a loss!!! HELP!!! It would be helpful to know what the mouse is - wireless, wired, ball, optical, etc. What brand also. If you haven't already, try rebooting the computer. If there is any software that controls the mouse function, then un-install and re-install, after downloading the most updated version of the software. IF those fail, I would look at the mouse failing. Change the mouse with a simple, wired mouse and see if that mouse had the same problem. I'm at a > loss!!! HELP!!! I'm sorry. I meant to put all that in and got too anxious with the post key! :) It's an optical mouse (Kensington) out of my USB port on my laptop. I contacted Kensington and they said to remove a list of files, however I couldn't find a single one of the files they listed. It all seems to have begun after my fingers got all tangled on the keyboard so that is why I thinik it's more that I pushed a combination of keys that messed it all up. My first attempt again would be to make sure that the touchpad still works properly, and if that is the case, get another mouse and test that. Preferably a USB mouse, plugged into the same USB port. If the new mouse works, you have a problem with either the software or the mouse, but if the new mouse has the same problem, you have a laptop hardware problem or software problem. Usually if you can't find files, it means you shouldn't be messing with those files in the first case. What is your level of experience? Are you comfortable with modifying the registry, or are you more or less advanced than that? Try a mouse test, and then we can go from there. > I'm sorry.
