I have Win XP Pro SP2 installed with SB Live WBM series. Lately the
scvhost.exe is spiking my cpu to 100% for a long period of time, seems to
happen after reboot and log on - my initial thought was Windows Update
however I am not too sure now. The process runs for so long when I kill it in
Task Manager most XP appearance themes are disabled and I have no audio
devices installed however Device Manager indicates they are there and
operational. I am thinking maybe this is related to the SB update process
however I am not too sure. I am open to ideas, please post if you have any...

Did you make a typo and type "scvhost.exe" when you really meant
"svchost.exe"? If you did *not* make a typo and you are really seeing
"scvhost.exe" then your computer is infected.
Be sure the computer is clean:

It is very unlikely that this is connected with hardware failure. The
fact that you have no sound afterwards does not mean the physical
hardware has failed - it means that the software that enables you to
hear the sounds is not working.
