Suddenly I got a problem on a iomega mini usb drive, that worked OK
for long time.
Inserted the new drive is immediately seen and assigned a letter "X".
If I click on it, I get an error message "insert a disk in the "X"
unit".
I tryed almost everything as my first thought was that the partition
data has been for some reason, corrupted.

1) Same result got on different PC
2) Same result got if I insert the flash before or after the boot.
3) Of course I cannot reformat as the unit is recognized but the
volume/disk is not.
4) I downloaded several software claiming to recover, format,
partition etc USB devices but : no result.
5) Partition Magic 8 doesnt see the drive, only fixed disks
6) Read everything I could find on MS Support, On Google , on Groups
etc.
7) No possibility to reach the storage for a low level formatting.

This is my last attempt, if someone of you has another idea !
After I will go to buy a new drive !!
:-((

Thanks
Manlio

The same thing happened to my PNY 2GB flash drive. I only bought it
afew weeks ago so I took it back to PC world. At first they could not
find what was wrong but afew minutes later they fixed it. I tried
everything before I take it to them.
I asked them how they done it.
This ids how it is done:
Click on my Computer Icon Right click on Usb Drive icon at and open
the properties
Note that drive does not have a letter assigned to it so type in the
box
H Drive and click apply.
Your usb flash drive should be working fine now.

Hi Rez,
thanks for the answer, but my case is different.
If you read carefully my question you'll find my USB flash drive has a
letter assigned. This happens immediately anytime I plug the unit in.
BTW it's exactly H, as I have other fixed volumes on my system.
The system considers it just as a driver unit in which has to be
inserted a disk. If I try to format or make any other operation I get
an error "no disk in the unit" or "Insert a disk in the unit".

I hope it's more clear.
My opinion, at the moment, is I have to buy another one !

Try out this program ? If you're only going to throw it away
anyway, it might be fun to experiment and see what the program
reports.

Not true!  I moved my "corrupted" hard drie to a USB enclosure and
TestDisk found it.  However, due to the "type" of corruption, I was
not successfully to "recover" my files that I saw of the drive.
