Hi All,

I am looking at a motherboard that says it has an:

     (x8) PCI-Express (using x16 slot)

What is this?  Can I install a PCIe 16x video
card in it?  Will it only run at half speed?

Many thanks,

It is geometrically a 16x PCI express slot (in that it will physically
accept up to 16x cards).  However it only has 8 PCIe lanes wired.  Yes you
can insert a 16x video card in it, and as you correctly surmised it will
operate with only those 8 lanes (and at only half the bandwidth).
