ASUS MB - P5GC-MX/1333.
XP Professional SP-2.
3+ Terabytes Hard Drive available.
3 gig RAM.
I am unable to install Realtek High Definition Audio drivers.
The install fails irrespective if I attempt to install from CD included
with motherboard or downloaded file from ASUS web site.
InstallShield starts then halts and advises Realtek High Definition
Audio driver install has failed.
InstallShield then closes.
Any assistance is appreciated.
Thank you.

Yes - I had applied that hotfix after failure to be able to install th
driver. Following download/install of KB888111 driver still fails t
install.
Could it be a problem with the drivers install program?
This problem occured after I replaced my primary SATA drive following
fiasco of an attempt to set up machine to dual-boot XP Pro & Vista eac
in their own partition on C drive. That SATA drive was replaced. Audi
drivers had been installed on previous hard drive but will not instal
on new drive,Bjarke Andersen;1345440 Wrote:

Really!  That's interesting!  see if there is an uninstall in the drivers
folder, if there is one, usually the install program creates a folder where
the sound drivers reside, or maybe the install cd has an uninstall process?
Have you talked to Realtek??
and or the motherboard manufactors??

I have the precise same issue. Unable to install ANY realtek HD Audi
driver on a fresh install of Vista Ultimate 64bit. It simply halt
stating that one or more arguments are invalid. I recon myself to be
fairly competent troubleshooter, but this one has me scratching m
head. Ive uninstalled all drivers, reinstalled, uninstalled and gon
through all possible safe mode variations, but still no go. I'm at m
wits end, and I am pondering if I'll be forced to reinstall the bas
operating system to see if something went FUBAR the first tim
around... :

My issue is resolved now. I chose to go for the reinstall of Vista
(using the RTM media this time around, and manually apply SP1). I still
have the same issue with the newest(?) drivers from ASUS and Realtek,
but the driver supplied on the installation media for Vista works
brilliantly. The properties sheets for the audio devices seems to have
all the settings I require.

I hope it works out for the rest of you as well shortly, 'cause this
one was a pain in the hole... :P

Cheers,
