I am trying to uninstall MSM 4.7 and leave Version 7.5 intact. This is
probably an easy fix but cannot seem to locate proceedure here or on MS
Support site. I am running WXP-SP2.

Thanks to anyone willing to help!!

It's not recommended that you remove Windows Messenger from your computer,
but you can disable it from launching when you start Windows. To do this,
launch Windows Messenger, go to Tools, Preferences tab, and uncheck "Run this
program when Windows starts.".

I just tried this and it did not work for me.  I went back into Outlook
Express and the instant messenging started up again.  Also tried unchecking
the box in Norton.

Greetings,

To stop this behavior in Outlook Express, close Outlook Express, then download and run this
.reg file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/stopmessenger_oe.reg

It shouldn't bother you again.
