I want to use MSN Messenger 6 (not Windows Messenger) but
when I installed it it totally annoyed me because when
you click "Close" it doesn't close, it hides in the
system tray. Unlike Windows Messenger which has the
option "Allow this program to run in the background" MSN
doesn't give you this option. Instead, it wants to run
all the time in your system tray. I hate that. Don't ask
me why. When I am done with it I want to exit it when I
hit close. As it is now you have to close, then go down
to the stinking system tray and right-click on the icon
and choose exit. It's utterly stupid. Is there a way to
make MSN Messenger to exit when you hit close from within
the program?

I don't use Outlook or MSN.

Greetings Mike,

Unfortunately no, this is the way MSN Messenger 6 works and was designed.

It's a stupid idea. You should change it. The reason I
want it off when I close it is because when it runs in
the background it slows my system down when I am looking
at webpages, especially webcams. Having to right-click
the system tray icon is just an unnecessary step. I have
no idea why the geniuses at Redmond think that's a good
idea.

Of Course when closing MSN you could just go to
File>Exit, which I believe (although, I can't check on my
current instance of windows) completely closes it down.

Although, if MSN is slowing down your Computer that much,
I think you may consider buying a new PC.
