Video OK, but they can't hear me!

I have XP Pro and Messenger 6.1 and even with my firewall/router temporarily
bypassed (directly connecting to my cable modem) and my Norton Internet
Security software firewall temporarily disabled, none of my contacts can
hear my voice in an audio conversation.  I can however hear them.

I have both a digital video camera (firewire connected with a webcamDV
driver) and a separate microphone connected to my SoundBlaster Live card.
Both can record audio in other applications, both show green levels rising
on the on-screen meter.  Neither device works for anyone to receive audio
from me, but I can hear them and video works fine in both directions.

I do not have Internet Connection Sharing or Internet Gateway enabled and
don't have any settings configured for port forwarding or anything strange
with networking.

I have read Jonathon Kay's response to "They can't hear me" and
unfortunately, nothing there helped.   I'm hoping I have overlooked
something basic, but have checked the really obvious stuff like microphone
levels.  Any help would be much appreciated.
